Deep Excavation Magazine Features Hillis-Carnes’ Northern Baltimore County Bridge Replacement Project

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates, Inc. (HCEA) was awarded the deep foundation micropile project that was completed last month on Ensor Road over Third Mine Branch in Northern Baltimore County, MD. HCEA gave careful consideration when designing the micropile foundations in order to assure that environmentally non-destructive drilling methods were used to install the required 38 micropiles for the new bridge abutments. A skilled and experienced crew under the supervision of HCEA Superintendent Mike Shanaberger was deployed to perform the challenging deep foundation installation. The project was completed on time despite the environmental challenges and limited working conditions.
