Hillis-Carnes Acquires Clendenin Consulting & Remediation Group

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates, Inc. is pleased to announce the acquisition of Clendenin Consulting & Remediation Group (CCRG) in Leesburg, Virginia.

CCRG was established by Mr. Bruce Clendenin, CPG in 1989. Locally owned and operated for the past 33 years, Clendenin is known as one of the top providers of geotechnical, environmental, and geologic consulting services for public and private sector clients primarily in the northern Virginia market.

Mr. Clendenin has over 40 years of experience managing hundreds of small to large-scale geotechnical engineering and environmental consulting projects in the Washington Metro Area, as well as several other U.S. states, Canada, and Japan. He offers broad experience on geotechnical engineering and environmental projects where integration of the two disciplines was critical to the success of a project.   The firm has consistently demonstrated to clients the benefit of integrating these service areas in order to lower costs, save time, eliminate communication breakdowns, and reduce exposure to unexpected costs and liabilities.

“We are happy to have Clendenin as part of the HCEA family,” says William M. Carnes, PE, President, and CEO of Hillis-Carnes. “Clendenin has built a strong presence in Northern Virginia and throughout the adjacent area, based on technical expertise and a strong commitment to outstanding client service. This increases our regional strength to continue providing responsive support for our clients.”

“I was extremely fortunate to operate a small engineering business supported by a wonderful and devoted staff for 33 years,” says Bruce Clendenin, CPG and President of CCRG.  “As I reflect on the process of selling my business to HCEA, the “thinking part” was more difficult than the “doing part”.  Once I engaged with the HCEA management staff, I was convinced that the match was right.  HCEA is organized with offices in strategic geographic areas, and capable staff; interested in expanding on their geotechnical and environmental site characterization and remediation services.  I look forward to collaborating with staff to identify opportunities to provide pre-acquisition environmental review and integrated geotechnical and environmental services.”

The transition is effective immediately, and the company now operates as Clendenin Consulting & Remediation Group, a Division of Hillis-Carnes.
