The Cambria Hotel Navy Yard Riverfront is a nine-story, 154-key hotel completed in 2021 within Washington, D.C.’s Capitol Riverfront district. The project was delivered as a ground-up urban infill development on a constrained site located between Nationals Park and Audi Field in a dense mixed-use district.

The hotel features 154 modern, upscale guest rooms, a ground-floor restaurant of approximately 7,100 SF, and approximately 2,500 SF of meeting and event space. Additional amenities include a rooftop lounge and terrace of approximately 3,500 SF with views of the river and skyline, a fitness center, and other hospitality-focused spaces. These elements required detailed coordination of structural systems, waterproofing, and building services, particularly for elevated and rooftop amenity areas. The project also incorporates sustainable design features that contributed to LEED Gold certification, including stormwater management systems and energy-efficient building components.

Hillis-Carnes was contracted to perform Construction Materials Testing and Inspection Services for the duration of the project. Services included testing and inspection of earthwork, utilities, foundations, and cast-in-place concrete, as well as observation and testing of reinforcing steel, structural steel, post-tensioned unbonded concrete, and pavement. The team also performed floor flatness and levelness testing and provided support of excavation monitoring, including proof testing and production testing. All work was performed to verify compliance with project specifications and applicable standards throughout construction.
