UM Shore Regional Medical Center

Hillis-Carnes provided Construction Materials Testing and Inspection services during the construction of the $540 million University of Maryland Shore Regional Medical Center in Talbot County, Maryland. The new regional hospital campus spans approximately 230 acres and replaces the existing University of Maryland Shore Medical Center on South Washington Street in Easton, Maryland. The facility includes a six-level, 325,294 SF acute-care hospital with 122 private patient rooms, 27 emergency department treatment bays, 25 adult observation/short-stay beds, seven operating rooms, and a rooftop helipad. The campus also features a 60,000 SF medical office and outpatient services building. Designed to expand healthcare access on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the hospital supports a wide range of specialty services, including emergency care, critical care medicine, cardiac intervention, orthopedics, neurosciences, women’s services, behavioral health, vascular services, rehabilitation, and a dedicated birthing center.

Hillis-Carnes provided comprehensive construction materials testing and inspection services during site development and building construction. Services included monitoring and testing of mass grading, structural fill placement, and utility trench backfill; observation and testing associated with stormwater management facilities, permeable pavers, and bioretention systems; and evaluation of foundation bearing conditions for spread footings. Additional services included field testing of cast-in-place concrete, inspection of reinforcing steel, structural steel erection, metal decking, and light-gauge framing, as well as testing and inspection of masonry, sprayed fireproofing, and intumescent coatings. Hillis-Carnes also performed pavement subgrade proofrolling, aggregate and asphalt testing, roofing installation inspections, and routine stormwater, erosion, and sediment control inspections in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
