Coolidge High School is a 271,000 SF facility located in the Takoma neighborhood of NE Washington, D.C., that is undergoing a $160 Million renovation and modernization. This project will include the construction of a new middle school on the campus, state-of-the-art spaces for a new Health Sciences Academy and mass media programs, a child care center, a health center, and a new outdoor garden. The new development is designed to serve more than 1,100 middle and high school students.

Hillis-Carnes was contracted to provide Industrial Hygiene services for the project. The scope of work included Hazardous Materials Testing and Inspections, which consisted of AHERA inspections, the scope of work and specification preparation of asbestos abatement activities, project coordination and management, negative exposure assessments, and asbestos data/bulk sample collection management and maintenance. In addition, Hillis-Carnes updated floor plans and associated blueprints for sample locations (Auto CAD drawings updated digitally) and ensured that all work was performed in compliance with Federal and State regulations. Hillis-Carnes also provided lead services including Lead-Based Paint (LBP) inspections, project coordination/management, data and sample collection, preparing specifications for lead remediation activities, compliance per housing and Urban Development (HUD) federal laws/regulations, as well as testing and analysis for Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs).
