The Towns at Padonia

The Towns at Padonia development in Timonium, Maryland, included the construction of five retaining walls totaling 24,927 square feet of Keystone Compac III systems. These structures were integral to stabilizing the sloped terrain surrounding the new townhome community. The walls incorporated Mirafi geogrids for reinforcement, with the tallest wall reaching a maximum height of 29 feet (43 courses).

Hillis-Carnes was contracted to provide structural design and consulting services focused on retaining wall and slope stability solutions. Our team designed modular block retaining walls with geogrid-reinforced earth, based on current NCMA design criteria and tailored to the project’s site-specific conditions. The client supplied grading plans, wall location layouts, utility plans, construction specifications, geotechnical reports, and all other documentation required for our design work.

In addition to design services, Hillis-Carnes provided comprehensive construction materials testing and inspection throughout the project. Our scope included testing and inspection of mass grading and fill placement, underground utilities, modular/segmental retaining wall construction, spread footings, cast-in-place concrete, reinforcing steel, structural load-bearing masonry, and pavement. All services were successfully completed in June 2022.
